Mudras - A summary - Part 2

1) Karavai Mudra – With samana mudra, massage each finger 20 times
Benefits: cures Sinus, ENT issues,
regularises BP and enhances memory
2)
Kara Mudra – Fist close, thumbs covering fist,
little finger stretched out on both hands – hold side by side till end of palm.
Benefits: relieves pain in hand, cures
frozen shoulder, strengthens wrist, fingers and shoulder nerves, useful for carpal
tunnel syndrome
3)
Mudra for Purifying blood, detoxifying and very
useful on fasting days
a. Honey Bee Mudra – Brahmara Mudra – Vayu mudra + thumb
to Middle finger top line (phalange)
Benefits – cures allergy, purify blood
and makes one active immediately
b. Sara Sara Mudra – V shape (separate (little
finger+ ring finger) from (middle finger+index finger) forming a V shape)
Benefits – purifies blood, cures
arthritis, bone marrow infection
Note - This is the famous vulcan salute(also an emoticon is a/v) used in Star Trek series meaning "Live long and prosper"
Benefits
– fasting mudra, cleanses body by removing toxin
4)
Mudras to cure Lung & Respiratory issues
(Specially Covid time)
a.
Swasa Mudra – Middle finger nails bent inwards
and touching each other while all others stand straight and do not touch
Benefits – cures Asthma, sore throat,
bronchitis and cures space element issues like constipation, lung issues
b. Swasakosa Mudra – 2 variations
Type 1 for 21 days – Middle finger
+ ring finger + little finger touching thumb at 3 levels at the same time –
middle finger to thumb tip, ring finger to middle line of thumb and little
finger to base of thumb. Index finger stretched out.
Type 2 for next 21 days – Bend middle
finger and press into palm centre until the nails are bent and all other
fingers touching each other.
Benefits – strengthens lungs, reduces
constipation, continuous cough, allergies in respiratory tract.
c. Ganapa Mudra – 6 times – 5 elements brought together
Hook fingers on both hands into each
other at chest level with back of palm to chest – inhale – relax, exhale and
pull palms creating tension.
Repeat hooking reversing palms. Note – 5
elements come together and that much energy infused to whole body – visualise Ganesha
and his strength.
Benefits – Power to upper arm, chest
area, respect, harmony
d. Garuda Mudra –
Caution – People suffering from High BP should not do this mudra.
Interlock thumb into thumb and spread the other fingers like wings of a bird.
Now, clasping the thumbs, place the right hand on top of the left hand like namaste.
This is done in 4 stages –
First Stage – Place this mudra in the pelvic region and inhale/exhale with long breaths for 10 times.
Second Stage – Then place this mudra in the navel region and repeat inhale/exhale 10 times.
Third Stage – Then bring the hands on the sternum and repeat the exercise 10 times.
Fourth Stage - Spread the palms and fingers like the wings of Garuda and inhale/exhale 10 times.
Excellent for the blood circulation in
all regions – pelvic, abdomen and chest regions, enhances blood circulation to
all parts like the spread fingers with the power of Garuda, improves eyesight
(as thumb is responsible for eyes)
5) Dry Cough Mudra -
a. Manikann mudra - Press the line below the nail of your left hand thumb using thumb and index fingers of the right hand.
Cures throat ulcer, controls fever, reduces dry cough, cures stammering
b. Parrot beak Mudra - Keep the index finger like a hook and place the thumb beneath the middle part of the index finger. Fold the remaining fingers inwards to the palm.
Controls tonsils and sores of uvula, controls dry cough, cures allergies of the throat, cures stammering and cures hoarse voice
c. Naga Mudra - Keep your right thumb on the left palm and place your left thumb over the right thumb. Then wrap all the other fingers of the right hand behind your left hand.
Specially for spiritual achievers, increases soul power, cures respiratory tract allergy and controls dry cough.
6) Memory Enhancing Pranayam & Mudras -
a.
Agochari Pranayam – for withdrawal of sense
organs from external distraction (Pratyahara)
Close your eyes. Inhale, gently open eyes and focus on tip
of nose (Prajna chakra) – Hold as much as possible (Antarik Kumbhak). Close
eyes and exhale with concentration on ajna chakra.
Repeat 5 times – This practice will help you concentrate without
any distraction.
b. Hakini Mudra + Pranayam –
Hakini mudra – Pancha mukhi mudra(All
finger tips touching each other and fingers facing upwards). Now for Hakini
mudra, bring the thumb and little finger in a straight line to 180 degrees.
For the pranayama, Roll tongue, close eyes. Inhale, open eyes and look at tip of nose(prajna chakra), Exhale, look at ajna chakra. Repeat for 5 breaths and relax.
7) Normal Blood circulation:
1) Varuna Mudra - Water balancing mudra - little finger tip to thumb tip
2) Meow Mudra - regulating blood pressure
3) Rudra Mudra - Index finger + Ring Finger tips to thumb tip (Removes blocks, regulates blood flow)
4) Vajra Padma Mudra - connects body and mind, maintains youth, dilates blood vessel, removes fear, induces deep sleep - Note - fingers are interlaced inwards.
8) BP regulate:
1) Mudichu Mudra - very effective for palpitations - Mudichu Mudra
2) Meow Mudra - shown above
3) Pankaja Mudra
4) Use 4 cloth clips - middle finger tip and little finger tip on both hands until body permits every day
9) Heart beat regulate:
1) Hridaya Mudra - In the above mentioned Swasa mudra (asthma mudra), join the ring finger tips with the other fingers maintained as it is shown there. Along with space alignment, it will also strengthen the heart muscle.
2) Prana-vayu mudra (General pain, Vision, sleep, neck pain and heart strengthen) - Prana mudra with index finger bent down to base of thumb

1) Vyana Mudra
2) Ganapa Mudra
3) Garuda Mudra (at chest level)
4) Shuddhi Mudra
5) Swasa Kosa mudra(See image above)
11) Insomnia (for good Sleep)
1) Vajra Padma mudra (see pic above)
2) Wagaa mudra - Right hand - Gyan Mudra, Left Hand - Varuna Mudra
3) Sleep Mudra - Gyan mudra both hands, insert little finger within gyan mudra(controlling water element using gyan mudra)
12) Urine incontinence cure/urine controlling:
1) Little finger on both hands - interlock and yank, release and repeat multiple times
2) Pinch behind ankle
3) Little finger - first cut at top with thumb tip - Brain and UB strengthen
4) Shakti Mudra - strengthen abdomen organs - Start with adi mudra - open out ring finger and little finger and touch their respective tips
5) Maan mudra - Hold Apana mudra - now move thumb tip to the first cut of ring and middle fingers instead of tips. Helps control mind, dental problems and Urinary bladder
13) Cure constipation:
1) Suchi Mudra - Hold mushti mudra in both hands at chest level close to heart, Inhaling, stretch out both your hands with the index finger stretched out, then move your hand outward drawing a circle reaching shoulder level. Exhaling bring back your hands in the same manner as stretched outwards, back to chest level.
2) Apana Mudra
3) Apana-vayu mudra(Sanjeevani mudra)
4) Massage index finger well
5) soak 8 to 10 raisins overnight and consume it first thing in the morning after brushing
6) Apply oil in anal region. In chronic cases, use index finger to apply oil in anus by inserting finger inside
7) For regular cleansing of large intestine - Once every 3 months - Take a teaspoon of Nilavarai(Sanamaki/Nela-varike) powder, available on amazon. Add it to a little warm water and stir well to avoid lumps at night before bed. Next morning, no coffee/tea/milk - only water. You will pass motion multiple times (3-6 times). Stick to regular diet from breakfast time
14) Overall sense organs general care:
Eyes - Use eye cup, do trataka
Nose - Do Jala Neti, sutra neti. Also apply anu taila (oil) to the nostrils
Mouth - Salt water Gargling
Ears - Brahmari Pranayama with Shanmukhi mudra, Karna Rogantaka Pranayama, Kaka pranayama or a combination of both with Pancha Mukhi mudra as practised in session.
Other General tips:
1) Chandra nadi pranayama – for left nostril
breathing to cool body – Place left leg below in sukhasan or padmasan.
2) Sury nadi pranayama – for right nostril
breathing to keep body active and highly agile – Place right below in sukhasan
or padmasan
3) Chandra nadi (left nostril) is dominant on Mon,
Wed and Friday – so waking up on right side is ideal to enhance breath flow on
left side. So sleep on right side for ten minutes and wake up from the right
side putting pressure on the right side, ensuring enhanced energy flow on the
dominant left side.
4) Surya nadi (right nostril) is dominant on Tuesday,
Saturday, Sunday – so waking up on left side is ideal to enhance breath flow on
right side. So sleep on left side for ten minutes and wake up from the left side
putting pressure on the left side, ensuring enhanced energy flow on the
dominant right side.
5) For Thursdays, if it is waxing moon on that day, left side is dominant and accordingly apply above rule (3) and if it is waning moon on that day, right side is dominant and accordingly apply above rule (4).
